for children

Art Classes for Children (8 - 17yo)

New term project: Contre-Jour

In this term, students will explore contre-jour oil painting — a powerful technique used by master artists to create drama, depth and emotion through contrast and backlighting.

The course begins with an inspiring theory session, analysing how great painters used light to shape form and guide the viewer’s eye.

Students will then develop one large-scale oil painting, working step by step from sketch and acrylic underpainting to rich, expressive oil paint layers and final details.

Students will learn to:
  • Build form through light and shadow using oil paint
  • Use contrast to create strong visual impact
  • Work confidently on a large canvas
  • Develop a complete oil painting from idea to finish

Perfect for young artists seeking to build strong foundational skills

while discovering their creative potential.
