Gifted and Talented Visual Arts — Test Preparation Program

Students applying for the Gifted and Talented Visual Arts program in Western Australian public schools are required to attend a Visual Arts workshop as part of the selection process. This assessment focuses on a combination of technical skill, creativity, visual thinking, and analytical ability.

The test typically includes three components:

  • Drawing Task

A timed pencil drawing on A3 paper. Students are assessed on their observational skills, technical accuracy, and composition.

  • Sculpture Task

A three-dimensional artwork created in response to a design prompt. This task evaluates the student's spatial awareness, originality, and ability to work within creative limitations.

  • Image Analysis (Written Task)

A written response to a set of questions about an artwork. This section tests the student's ability to describe, interpret, and analyse using appropriate visual language and understanding of the Elements and Principles of Art.
